If you need some custom cabling made up for you then these suppliers can provide pretty much anything you or they can think up. My go to for cables is Stuart Torrance because he’s a totally rad dude.
I also recently dealt with Kris Jarosz who serviced a broken MKH50 for me, it came back better than ever and at a very reasonable cost. He told me he could probably fix and probably had already fixed in the past anything sound related that I’ve touched or will ever touch. Pretty reassuring words!

Here is a list of suppliers that offer kit for sale. I will try and keep this updated as and when I find new reputable providers. This supplier list was taken and derived from the very useful, extremely helpful and considerate community setup on FB titled London / UK Production Sound Dept. Check them out!

This is a short form quote generator I created in excel so when you get caught on the phone and need to quickly put something together for a client with the basics of the job in mind, this might help you. It’s got the standard PSC rates as well as those for APA commercials.
Do please let me know how you modify it as I’d love to make my own better if anyone has any ideas!
A new version of the BECTU Production Sound Ratecard has been released in April 2017. It details all the possible roles within a production sound team for Film and Factual TV Sound and their industry standard rates.
BECTU’s rates are generally considered an industry standard and are adhered to rigorously by members of the union as well as those outside of the union. If you are starting out and are capable of doing the job, I would suggest aiming to collect these rates from your clients.
This is a camera cheat sheet with details of a large number of modern broadcast cameras including. Audio Inputs, Audio Outputs, Timecode Inputs, Timecode Outputs, Genlock connections headphone outs and all with direct links to the manufacturer’s site. It started as a resource for myself inspired by a fellow sound recordist and just contains a little more of the relevant information that I would have hoped was included. Hope it helps you too.
If you spot any inaccuracies or would like to suggest additional cameras, please feel free to drop me a message.
